Your gourmet pantry
Village Pantry, Bangsar is an initiative from Village Grocer to introduce a gourmet food market whose focal point would be on international cuisine. Ready-made dishes are to be packaged for the shopper on-the-go, including a seat-in for dining.
The display counters are placed in the middle and all around the edges of the shop layout, in order for shoppers to orientate in between counters easily in singular direction through the space. As the displays are placed side by side, we referred to the busy streets of Tokyo with its colorful shopfronts and visually enticing facades, by separating each cuisine using different quirky lighted signages, in different typography, based on each individual food type.
While each cuisine had its own unique characterization in terms of structure and signage, the common elements were the material finishes (eg. tiles and counter surfaces) with which we used to tie the elements together. The overall color scheme was grey, with wall facades in colored slate finishes similar to the streets of Tokyo.
The hexagonal floor tiles in tonal gradation complement the directional wood strips on the ceiling, both accentuating the transitional energy of a busy food hive. However, without deriving from the original identity of Village Grocer’s brand, we covered the seating area wall finishes with the softer colors of green, and benches in warm timber. Overhead, the soft lighting from the membrane ceiling brightens up the space, offering the customers a reprieve from their shopping.
