Village Grocer Gateway
The science of supermarket
Village Grocer was located at KL Gateway shopping mall, the mall itself is based on the concept of an underground subway. The overall setting consisted of black and grey tiles which we carried forward into the interiors of Village Grocer to resume the underground experience.
This supermarket demonstrates how modern design and lighting can benefit customers, the company and the wider public. With this being our 3rd supermarket design with the Client, we have studied the lighting efficiency with the lighting consultant to improve the quality of fresh food displayed under the lights buy lowering the heat emitting from them and slashing power consumption dramatically, along with refrigeration improvements.
Throughout the store, a translucent pelmet outlines the store with soft diffused lights, rendering the store with a clean white border, while also showcasing the signage of different departments.
White globe lights are strung throughout the store like centrepieces in an underground wonderland. The soft light exuding from the globes create a dreamy mood while still maintaining a low brightness for a vintage underground vibe.
The overall combination of white light framed by neat, clean black lines, and grey tiles provide a minimal backdrop to showcase the colourful products, and keeps the shopping experience simple and comfortable.
