We are spilling the beans to this hideaway
J&D Espresso cafe is the product of a young entrepreneur bringing his innovation home from Australia. With the tagline of Bloody Good Coffee, they strive to provide coffee culture in a cosy environment. While J&D prides themselves on their crafting methods, we chose to reflect the way they extract the best espresso from their beans to provide outstanding coffee with a golden layer of crema and topped with properly frothed fresh milk.
We designed the spaces to be finished with the rich dark extremes of coffee espresso mixed with the softer tones of latte. Feature areas are highlighted with flowing white marble reflecting the frothy milk toppings.
The entrance doorway, like a ‘hole in the wall’ opens into a dimly lit corridor with dark espresso and metallic tones, with the walls slanted inwards to further narrow it to produce a tunnel vision effect. Crystal light bulbs with intricate details are placed in singular file along the middle, like breadcrumbs leading to a final destination. Around the corner, the corridor widens into an open dining space, lit up with scores of crystal lights that illuminate the dark interior, creating a cosy ambience.
Pivot doors of tinted full height glass are built to control visibility, and can be adjusted for enclosed seating, and swivelled open to allow for open seating on the thick ledges along the shop. From the exterior, passersby are greeted with an air of mystery from the tinted glass, only the white marble counter from the kitchen can be glimpsed to captivate its viewers.
As an indication of its Australian descent, the interior decor is laced with elements of aboriginal themes, fabric textiles are mixed with aboriginal art and a Didgeridoo is placed as a feature.
