The concept for Monte was very much an interplay of water, wind and sun. It was about how we celebrated these elements and bringing them together. With many rooms blessed with sunshine, and in some cases the garden view, we wanted to give this show house a very airy and light welcome.
From the entry, visitors proceed to an open hall softened by walls in whisper gray to arrive in the spacious living room. Furniture gathers on a custom made carpet of 100% wool hand woven rug to fit snugly into the squared space. Above, the ceiling fixture is an unorthodox cluster of disk lights from Vibia which add an interesting twist to the dining hall. The statement dining table are flanked by 8 cushioned seatings.
The open kitchen layout brings a sense of expansiveness to the space, and it is super-efficient too, as the counter separating the dining also serves as a breakfast table. With sidewalls in cabinetry accommodating the sink, cooktop, ovens and a refregirator that is recessed, you would find more space within the Asian kitchen with a corner pantry. The maids quarters can be accessed via the kitchen, with a large area for the yard.
Efficiency was similarly crucial for storage elsewhere with a closets hidden under the stairs.
Upstairs lies the guest master room, a baby’s nursery and a cosy bedroom to accommodate visiting family and friends. The family space was turned into a home office, which serves as a touch point to the outside world amidst the temporary getaway. In most bedrooms, natural tones were prevalent, with shades of celadon, bone, ivory, linen and grey whisper. These subtle palettes brought out spots of bright sea greens in arts on walls as well as soft furnishing. Indirect light case a subtle glow on the abundant woodwork.
The most sybaritic area in the house is the master suite on the level three, where it covers an entire floor alone. With the home’s North-South orientation, the home benefited from a cooling environment above that we wanted to balance that with more daylight to this floor, therefore, we have created an opening at the void space of the stairway to flood natural light into the room. Built-ins maximises the openness and white high gloss curved wardrobe doors softens the entire suite.
